Manufacturers of hearing aids have target responses that are used to program hearing aids based on a patient’s hearing loss. These settings do not account for individual variables in a patient’s ear or how the hearing aid or earmold sitting in the ear changes the acoustics of the ear.
Now with the use of a small tube placed in the ear with the hearing aid, the hearing aid can be tested and adjusted to meet these individual characteristics of the patient’s ear. Taking into account these acoustical properties results in better hearing. Features of the hearing aid, including audibility, directionality, noise reduction, and feedback suppression, can be verified to be working properly.
